Photo Storage sites

I have created a wiki to compare the best online photo storage sites where you can upload images you own and show them to other people. This project does not include invisible photo storage sites like ImageShack or AllYouCanUpload, which are simple photo closets where you get direct links to your images in order to display them on your own websites. I am interested in sites that offer a wide range of features for your online photographs.
Please, help me to edit the informations that have not been completed or that are simply wrong. Photostorage.Wetpaint.com

Here come The Monkees

By tommy boyce and bobby hart

Here we come, walkin
Down the street.
We get the funniest looks from
Evry one we meet.
Hey, hey, were the monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But were too busy singing
To put anybody down.

We go wherever we want to,
Do what we like to do
We dont have time to get restless,
Theres always something new.
Hey, hey, were the monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But were too busy singing
To put anybody down.

Were just tryin to be friendly,
Come and watch us sing and play,
Were the young gneration,
And weve got something to say.

Any time, or anywhere,
Just look over your shoulder
Guess wholl be standing there

Hey, hey, were the monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But were too busy singing
To put anybody down.

(break)

Hey, hey, were the monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But were too busy singing
To put anybody down.

Were just tryin to be friendly,
Come and watch us sing and play,
Were the young gneration,
And weve got something to say.

Hey, hey, were the monkees
Hey, hey, were the monkees
[repeat and fade]

Extra verse:

Hey, hey, were the monkees,
You never know where well be found.
So youd better get ready,
We may be comin to your town.

Last train to Clarksville

I loved the Monkees when I was eight... that was long time ago, actually when they were on top. Particularly my favorite monkee was Peter Tork. Boy, they were really fun!

Words and Music by
Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart

Take the last train to Clarksville,
And I'll meet you at the station.
You can be be there by four thirty,
'Cause I made your reservation.
Don't be slow, oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!

'Cause I'm leavin' in the morning
And I must see you again
We'll have one more night together
'Til the morning brings my train.
And I must go, oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
And I don't know if I'm ever coming home.

Take the last train to Clarksville.
I'll be waiting at the station.
We'll have time for coffee flavored kisses
And a bit of conversation.
Oh... Oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!

Take the last train to Clarksville,
Now I must hang up the phone.
I can't hear you in this noisy
Railroad station all alone.
I'm feelin' low. Oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
And I don't know if I'm ever coming home.

Take the last train to Clarksville,
Take the last train to Clarksville,
[repeat and fade]

BloxOr

What's the point of desktop feed readers? If we use several computers a day, or we travel, we need a good online feed reader to get updated news from all our chosen sources. I have been using the feed aggregator features of Netvibes, which is a clean reader, but then some sources do not provide the full entry to the reader, in which case you have to jump to the source website to read it all or to see all the illustrations. This is why I moved all my subscriptions to BloxOr. I can read any original entry inside BloxOr, since the source site is opened within the reader. BloxOr user interface is simple and practical, no much fuss. I give it my vote.

Flock

I like Flock. My main browser is Firefox, however I find Flock, specially its last version, to be very well featured with del.icio.us, flickr, blogger integration, plus a beautiful feed reader. Flock is elegant and clean. I use Windows XP and recommend you Flock as your alternative browser.

Picasa Web Albums

I expected more from Google. Their desktop pictures organizer, Picasa, is a good product although very limited as image editor; but what can you ask to a freebee! Now Picasa goes online and we all photo freaks dreamed that coming from Google it should be great. Well, it's not.

Google believes that people shoot lower resolution photographs. Hello? Digital cameras start from 5 or 6 Megapixels these days! These means we average digital photo shooters accumulate tons of megabytes of pictures per year, if not per month! We cry for a decent online photo storage and backup service. We imagined this could come from Google. Big surprise: Picasa Web Albums free version comes serving you a ridiculous 250 Mb total space and its paid version is even more stupid: $25/year for nothing but 6 Gb ever! Did I say 6 Gb? This is what I shoot on a couple of summer trips!

Now, Google wants me to keep all my photo collections (Picasa Web) under a limit of 6 Gb while milking me $25 a year just for using their hard drive? Hello Google Drive, even Mediamax Streamload gives me 25 Gb for free to upload, display and share photos, videos, audio or documents!!

Picasa Web: nothing to recommend here, unless you are a poor low resolution once in a while photo shooter that knows no better.

Phanfare

Phanfare is a family friendly pictures and videos storage service. They only have paid plans, but you store your original resolution images (can also download back) and space is unlimited. The album templates I have seen are ugly but the slideshow feature looks nice (you can add background music to it). Albums can be set private and you can invite your friends to see them. Three price options: pay $6.95/month, or pay $54.95/year, or pay $299.95 just once for a lifetime account. This is another serious alternative to Flickr, for private users.

Pickle

I was in love with Bubbleshare as the perfect hosting for photography aficionados: it's free, has a lot of features, and you could download your original pictures back to your hard drive. Not anymore. The Bubbleshare team has removed that feature and now you can only download a lower resolution version of whatever you previously uploaded. That's sad. I communicated with them and they told me that they maybe will restore the feature back. Maybe.

Now comes a new brand: Pickle. They offer free and paid plans. Unlimited storage for pictures and videos (most formats are welcome). Monthly upload up to 200 Mb first year, 75 Mb second year onwards (free) or 2 Gb ($19.95/first year, $49.95/year onwards). Max file size: 100 Mb first year, 10 Mb second year onwards. I think it's a good alternative to Flickr, if you want having the option to keep any albums (boxes) private (you can't make private sets with Flickr, only individual pictures). After the first year special promotion, boxes are limited to 7 for free account users. They come with a very interesting pack of features, most of them helping you share your boxes through rich formated email messages, or even for using a custom email address as alternative upload method. The good thing is that your original images can be downloaded back to your drive and you can bestow permission to other users to do it as well. That's better than what Bubbleshare does, but only for the paid accounts.

All Music

This is, to me, since long time, the perfect place to learn about popular music and musicians. So, if I purchase music from Amazon or from Allofmp3 I know which ones the best records are.

All of MP3

I am anti-iPod and anti DRM. I believe in culture as a good for all mankind. I don't believe in charging fees and tolls for having access to mere e-duplicates with no cost (because they are made of bits not of matter). That's why I don't buy from iTunes or Yahoo Music or wherever if they restrict my freedom to enjoy digital goods in any way. If I ever buy a piece of music in electronic format, I want to be able to play it in all my music players, copying or transferring it from one to another at my discretion. So since yesterday I am having a nice experience as customer of AllofMp3. I am willing to pay a very moderate price for high quality open format mp3 music files, and once downloaded I can convert the files to .cda and make myself an audio CD to play them in my car's unsophisticated CD player, or put the mp3 files into any mp3 player to carry with me anywhere. If for any reason I wish the official CD that it's sold in music stores, I want it free from malware and rootkits, just the music and myself to be the full owner of the item I paid for.

Entries and Comments

At the moment this humble blog is visited by few people. Of course you can change that! Tell your friends about Lux Infinita, the infinite light of the Universe will reward you :-) My posting schedule is very random: sometimes I post several entries a day, some other times one in a week. I tend not to make this blog personal. I prefer to let you know of cool things that I find surfing around. It's 10 years since I started publishing on the web and some scary experiences have taught me not to tell much about myself at one single webspace. I encourage you to comment my entries, and we may correspond and have a nice conversation. Anyway, thanks for coming!

If you have a flickr account, this piece of webware is quite nice.

It will display your profile, your tags, the latest pictures you have uploaded, a random collection from all your photographs, your contacts, your groups and your favorites.
